Award Categories


MELDA 2009 will continue to recognise innovation and technical excellence for lighting design projects completed in the categories listed below. We will be accepting submissions for completed projects within the Middle East & North Africa region, including the GCC, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran and Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Algeria. Major redesigns or redevelopments of existing projects are acceptable.

Please note because of the longevity of project cycles entries are valid for two years and maybe re-entered into the following years event.

1. Public Buildings - to include historic buildings, museums, galleries, airports, places of worship and government buildings.

2. Exterior – to include building facades, bridges, structures.

3. Landscape- to include public spaces, landscaped areas and street lighting.

4. Hospitality & Leisure – to include hotels, entertainment centres, theatres, cinemas and sports venues.
 
5. Retail – to include shopping malls, department stores, boutiques, and showrooms.

6. Corporate – work place environments to include offices, business centres, business parks or free zones, conference centres, and studios.

7. Residential - to include private residences or apartments, does not include show apartments unless they are permanent projects.

8. Restaurants & Bars – to include restaurants, bars and coffee shops.

9. Temporary Installations – to include temporary and one-off lighting installations, exhibitions, lighting for concerts and corporate events.

10. Green Award -The judges will be looking for a quality lighting installation that addresses both energy efficiency and sustainability whilst still producing an outstanding lit environment. Submissions can be made directly for this category, but all project entries will be considered.

11. Innovative Product of the Year – This award is for the best new product intended for either internal or external use for the period January 08-09. Product innovations must have been commercially available during the entry period, prototypes will not be considered.

12. Middle East Lighting Project of the Year -This will be a project that, in the judges’ opinion, will have exhibited exceptional lighting design skills, innovation and vision. There will be no direct submission for this category; candidates will be short listed from projects submitted in the previous categories.

Deadline for submissions is 6pm, Friday 6th March 2008
